The Titlis Rotair Closure, Explained

The Rotair — the revolving cable car that made the final leg of the Titlis ascent famous — is closed from 10 August to 11 December 2026. If you have a booking or are planning one, here is precisely what that changes, and what it does not.

What the closure actually means

The summit does not close. During the works, the Titlis Connect — the new-generation cable car on the route — carries visitors between Stand and the 3,020 m summit station. You still start in Engelberg, you still ride over Trübsee, and you still top out at the same glacier. The one thing you lose is the rotation: the Connect’s cabins face where they face, and the famous slow 360° spin over the ice is out of service until 11 December 2026.

Everything at the top runs to its normal schedule:

• The glacier cave — inside the mountain, indifferent to which cable car delivered you
• The Titlis Cliff Walk — Europe’s highest suspension bridge, open as scheduled
• The Ice Flyer chairlift over the glacier

Ticket structure and pricing are unchanged too — the admission bundle covers the same attractions at the same price either side of the closure, and the price page maths is identical.

Should you reschedule?

Be honest with yourself about why you are going. If the answer is the glacier, the Cliff Walk and the view — go whenever suits your trip; the closure will not meaningfully touch your day, and the autumn shoulder season it spans is one of the quieter, clearer windows on the mountain.

If the answer is the revolving cable car itself — it is a fair reason; the Rotair is a genuine one-of-a-kind ride — then book before 10 August or after 11 December 2026. Summer dates before the closure are peak season, so book those early; December reopening dates pair the restored rotation with early-winter snow.

The practical footnotes

The guided day trips run through the closure unchanged — from Lucerne and from Zurich alike, since transport, summit time and the Ice Flyer are all unaffected.
